Hyderabad: The U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad organised the closing ceremony of the FirstLeap programme, a six-month-long series of workshops to improve employability skills, at the Phoenix Arena in Gachibowli on Friday. The programme was a collaboration between the US Consulate General, Bala Vikasa International Centre and UMEED.
As many as 51 final year women students from Shantiniketan College were enrolled in the programme and trained on essential concepts to help increase their employability such as workplace communicative English, digital literacy, self-worth, menstrual health, CV-building and interview preparation.
Speaking at the closing event, David Moyer, Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General Hyderabad said when women were economically empowered, they re-invest in their families and communities, producing a multiplier effect that spurs economic growth and contributes to peace and stability. “This includes promoting opportunities for women to engage in the economy, including as workers and entrepreneurs, while also addressing the broader enabling environment that impacts women’s ability to engage in economic activity,” he said.
