Suryapet: Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday urged the State government to take measures for the protection of 46 acres of government land that has been allegedly encroached upon by land grabbers at Pedaveedu village of Mattampally mandal in the district.
Speaking after inspecting the land parcel, he said the Forest department planted saplings in 46 acre in survey no. 540 at Pedavedu under social forestry programme. Two persons Gunda Brahma Reddy and Malothu Krishna Naik encroached upon the land and were trying to sell part of it as open plots. “The land can be utilised for construction of double bedroom houses or residential school. The place is just five km away from Andhra Pradesh-Telangana State border. The Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) had assured last year that fencing would be put up to protect the land but it has not been taken up even after a year,” he said.
He demanded that the District Collector take stringent action against persons encroaching the forest land, and take back the land from their possession.
Stating that the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh had taken up construction of a bridge on river Krishna at Mattampally to connect Telangana and AP at a cost of Rs 50 crores, he said this had helped in the development of the area. Claiming credit for the bridge, the Congress president said toll was not being collected from motorists using the bridge. The State government, he said, sanctioned only the approach road for it. “It is unfortunate that the officials did not invite me for the opening ceremony of the bridge in violation of protocol,” he said, adding that officials were not following protocol and not inviting Congress MPs to officials programmes in the State. “I will raise the matter in the Lok Sabha,” he added.
Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the State government was only getting old and existing reservoirs and pipelines painted and passing them off as new constructions under Mission Bhagiratha.
