Hyderabad: The 3,962 healthcare workers in Telangana who were inoculated with Covid vaccine on Saturday are doing well and have not experienced any major adverse health events after getting the vaccine.

Unlike some other States, where a few beneficiaries reported severe Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI), no such complications were reported in Telangana.

On Saturday, about 11 healthcare workers had complained of minor events like pain at the injection site, reddishness and fever. However, major complaints after vaccination like allergies and palpitations were not reported.

“As far as AEFIs are concerned, we are glad to inform that all the healthcare workers in Telangana who got vaccinated on Saturday are doing well. No further adverse events were reported anywhere in the State,” Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr.G.Srinivasa Rao said.

Senior health officials including Superintendents of all the government teaching hospitals in Hyderabad had received the Covid vaccine on the first day. On Sunday, none of the senior doctors, some of whom also have pre-existing medical conditions and aged above 50 years, reported any complications. “I was expecting overnight fever after getting vaccinated. However, I am absolutely fine,” said Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr. K Ramesh Reddy, who was amongst the first to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, for the second-day of Covid vaccination drive i.e. on Monday, the health department has expanded the vaccination sites in Telangana from 140 to 324, with each site administering the vaccine to 50 healthcare workers in a day. On the first day of the vaccination drive, each centre had inoculated 30 healthcare workers.

Overall, the health department has set itself a target of inoculating 16,200 healthcare workers on Monday at the 324 vaccination sites across the State. Health officials said that in the coming weeks, the number of vaccination sites will be expanded to 500 with each facility vaccinating at least 100 individuals in a day.

The health department has uploaded information in the CoWIN software to vaccinate close to 3 lakh healthcare workers, which amounts to nearly 7 lakh Covid vaccine doses. At present, the MOHFW has provided nearly half of seven lakh, of Covid vaccine doses.
