Vaccine wastage 1.22 per cent in Telangana: Health officials

The Director of Public Health, Dr. G Srinivasa Rao said that the vaccine wastage was well below the minimum 10 percent mark.

Hyderabad: The State health department on Thursday said that the percentage of Covid vaccine waste in Telangana since the launch of the vaccination drive was 1.22 percent.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Wednesday during a review meeting with Chief Ministers, that Telangana was among States that had more than 10 percentage wastage of Covid vaccines, the Director of Public Health, Dr. G Srinivasa Rao said that the vaccine wastage was well below the minimum 10 percent mark.


Since the launch of the Covid vaccination drive, as per the Electronic Vaccination Intelligence Network (eVIN) software of Union Ministry of Health, so far Telangana has received 9,52,550 vaccine doses, he said.

Health authorities said the State received just 40,540 vaccine doses which were meant for armed forces. The Covid Vaccination Centres (CVCs) also had a very less buffer of vaccine doses at 25,680.

The net vaccine consumed in Telangana was 8,86,330 doses while the doses administered as per the COWIN dashboard is 8, 75, 478 doses. The total vaccine wastage was 1.22 percent, Dr Rao said.
