Vanajeevi Ramaiah pledges to donate red sanders trees to Haritha Nidhi

Hyderabad: Padmashree awardee Vanajeevi Ramaiah on Wednesday pledged to donate more than 20 tonnes of red sanders trees groomed by him to the Haritha Nidhi being developed by the Forest department. He appreciated the efforts of the Telangana government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao towards protection of forest and environment.

Ramaiah along with his wife Janamma met Rajya Sabha member and Green India Challenge (GIC) founder J Santosh Kumar here on Wednesday. On the occasion, Ramaiah and Santosh Kumar discussed about Telangana ku Haritha Haram, GIC and Telangana government’s Haritha Nidhi programme.

Ramaiah who has been planting trees along with his wife Janamma for past several decades, said growing greenery is everyone’s responsibility and wanted all people to plant saplings to fulfill this responsibility. Terming Green India Challenge as a good programme, he wished that it will be taken up to protect the environment across the country should be a great success and the nature should bless the programme. He stated that the challenge before the entire population was to face the climatic changes, protect the forests and everyone should plant trees to increase the green cover.

Meanwhile, Santosh Kumar expressed happiness over the meeting with the Ramaiah couple who were aged above 70 years are very active in their work to protect the environment. He also enquired about their health and assured all help on his behalf in case they require any medical help. The MP also expressed his readiness to supply saplings from GIC to Ramaiah to plant and distribute the saplings.
