Hyderabad: Heavy rains in the season, coupled with escalating fuel prices, have resulted in highly volatile vegetable prices in the city’s markets. The prices, which have been going up and down, have again shot up this week in comparison with last month.

Not just vegetables, the prices of onions too have seen a drastic increase within a single day. A kilogram of onions, which was priced at Rs.25 on Monday, was going at Rs.39 on Tuesday at Falaknuma Rythu Bazaar, while it was being sold at Rs.45 per kilogram in the retail market.
Officials of Rythu Bazaars in the city have attributed the increase in the vegetable prices to the heavy rains that lashed the State during the last two months.
“Due to heavy rains, crops were damaged and arrivals to the Rythu Bazaar were affected. The prices of vegetables depend on arrivals. The increase in fuel cost has also affected vegetable prices. We are expecting the prices to come down by December,” said Mujeebuddin Ahmed Khan, Estate Officer, Rythu Bazaar, Falaknuma.
