Khammam: A special investigation team has been formed with three Inspectors of Police to recover Rs 3 crore which a gang collected from the poor promising lands at Velugumatla Bhoodan lands, said Additional DCP (Law and Order) Prasad Rao.

He said that regarding the Velugumatla land dispute, 24 cases have been registered to date, involving 60 accused individuals, 11 of whom have already been arrested. The number of complaints against those who engaged in encroachment on Bhoodan lands and defrauded the poor has been increasing day by day.

Acting on the orders of Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt, measures were being taken to recover the money collected from the poor on the pretext of offering house sites. Based on complaints received across the district so far, 19 cases were registered at Khanapuram Haveli police station, while one case each was registered at the Raghunadhapalem, Konijerla, Chintakani, Sathupalli and Enkoor police stations, the ACP said.

He also observed that the names of the accused appearing in the complaints received from affected persons across various police stations were largely consistent. If the accused were found to have acquired or purchased assets using the money collected from the poor, such assets would be identified and appropriate legal action would be taken.
