Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based VEM Technologies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telangana government on Sunday to set up an integrated defence systems facility at Yelgoi, Zaheerabad, Sangareddy District, Telangana. VEM will invest about Rs 1,000 crore in this facility over the next five years, creating over 2,000 jobs.

The MoU was signed by V Venkata Raju, CMD, VEM Technologies and Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary to Government of Telangana, in the presence of KT Rama Rao, Industries Minister, Government of Telangana, Dr V K Saraswat, Niti Aayog member, and Dr G Satheesh Reddy, DRDO chairman.


With over three and half decades of expertise and experience, VEM is going to build the facility mainly for a weapon systems integration in about 511 acres of land with the full-fledged facility for missiles, naval systems, unmanned aircraft systems, medium and large aero/naval structures, radars, aero-engines, hot and cold integration, metrology, surface treatment with NADCAP certification.

This facility will be set up to meet the current and forthcoming orders and also to be the base for a few of foreign OEMs to produce their systems for the domestic and global markets. The facility will be first-of-its-kind in the country having the end-to-end infrastructure for assembly, integration and testing of the systems.

Strong base

The company currently has two facilities in Hyderabad-for design & development and manufacturing. VEM is one of the large production partners for Akash, LRSAM/MRSAM, Astra and BrahMos Missile programmes supplying various systems and subsystems. The company supplies “Centre Fuselages” to the country’s Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas Production programme.

Since its inception in 1988, VEM has been focusing on being a leading technology & systems company through innovations, technology absorption and improvement. VEM has over 1,350 employees and is led by V Venkata Raju. The company has been a development partner for various missile systems in India and a production partner with the defence PSUs such as BDL, BEL and HAL.

The company has over the years built its expertise in the areas of radars, electro-optical systems, aerostructures manufacturing, catering to defence companies in the USA, Europe and Israel. The company has developed its own weapon system, ASIBAL – an Anti-Tank Guided Missile System and a few high-end and hi-reliable systems for defence and aeronautics.

VEM established itself as a supplier for fighter aircraft, helicopters and UAVs supplying the highly complex structure assemblies, power electronics, control actuation systems etc. The company also has been involved in the development of niche systems for Space applications.
