Rajanna-Sircilla: Government whip and Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas had a narrow escape when the basement of a double bedroom house (G+2) complex collapsed at Parvathipuram colony of Vemulawada town on Tuesday.
The MLA along with in-charge Collector Garima Agarwal and Congress leaders had visited the spot to inspect work on the structure, which was stalled by the contractor since 2021, and resumed after the Roads and Buildings department awarded the contract to a new agency on November 17. While they were observing the building on the ground floor, the concrete bed sank partially. Congress workers immediately caught hold of the MLA and prevented him from falling.
Following the incident, Housing Department officials ordered an enquiry. A team of officials led by the Vemulawada RDO was deputed to conduct the inquiry and submit a report.
According to officials, since the work was stalled by the contractor in 2021 after laying slabs, the MLA had taken the initiative to hand it over to a different agency under the Indiramma Housing scheme. He had also distributed house pattas to 144 beneficiaries under the Indiramma scheme. The MLA visited the site to review progress at the ground level.
