Hyderabad: M Venkata Rama Reddy of Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) has been selected to represent India in the 800m event of the fifth South Asian Athletics Federation Games, to be held at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi from October 23 to 26, according to M Narayana Rao, Chairman of the AP Athletics Association Selection Committee.
The Games will feature the best athletes from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Afghanistan, in addition to the host nation, India.
Ram Reddy, who won a ‘golden double’ by winning the 800m and 1500m events at the recent Junior National Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, has been training at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru in preparation for the competition.
The AP State Athletics Association President, K Madhusushana Rao, AV Raghavendra, Joint Secretary of AFI, and D Nageswara Rao, Chairman of the Planning Committee of APAA, congratulated Ram Reddy and expressed confidence that he would bring laurels to the nation.
