Siddipet: P Venkatrami Reddy IAS, who opted for voluntary retirement from services 10 months before his superannuation, has left an indelible mark with his work during his seven years of service as Joint Collector of erstwhile Medak district and first Collector of Siddipet district.
Reddy, a 1996 Group-I Officer, had started his association with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao when the Chief Minister assigned him to complete the building of a model village at Erravally of Markook Mandal in 2016. As he successfully completed the project by ably coordinating with the villagers, local representatives, and officials, the Chief Minister has appointed him as the first Collector of Siddipet in 2016 October.
Since the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) work was underway and four reservoirs- Ananta Sagar, Ranga Nayaka Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar, and Mallanna Sagar-were proposed to build in Siddipet district, Reddy, who was promoted as IAS officer in 2007, had played a key role in acquiring thousands of acres of land for the project. His job was made easy since current Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who was Irrigation Minister then, had extended all the support and guidance. During his tenure as Collector, the IAS officer has acquired about 50,000 acres of land for irrigation projects, canals, Gajwel Railway line, Gajwel Outer Ring Road, Mission Bagiratha project and other development works in the district.
As part of providing the best rehabilitation and resettlement facilities to displaced under the project, the government had built a 6,000 2BHK houses colony near Gajwel which he had executed successfully. It is considered one of the biggest R&R Colony in the world.
As the Chief Minister wanted to promote drip irrigation cultivation, Reddy had sensitised the farmers in Erravally and neighbouring villages, Venkatrami Reddy had participated in several programmes to make farmers adopt drip irrigation besides making them cultivate diverse crops which were in demand in the market. The IAS officer had also improved the greenery along the Rajiv Rahdhari.
He had also worked as DWAMA (District Water Management Agency) Project Director in the year 2002-04 in Medak district. He had worked as Collector Rajanna-Siricialla for eight months in 2018-19 when the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were held.
However, the IAS officer always said that he was impressed by the vision and commitment of the Chief Minister towards Telangana development and its welfare. “I am indeed blessed to get an opportunity in executing some of the projects which were Chief Minister’s long-cherished dreams, Reddy said. Former Sarpanch of Erravally Bhagya said that they would never forget the services rendered by Venkatrami Reddy sir to them. She further said that the Collector used to stay and day nights in the village to complete the works before the deadline set by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister never left any meeting in the Siddipet district without praising Venkatrami Reddy.
