Veteran Urdu journalist Syed Vicaruddin is no more
Vicaruddin, who guided the newspaper through its centenary year last year, passed away on Thursday night at Olive Hospital here.

Hyderabad: Syed Vicaruddin, Chief Editor of popular Urdu daily Rahnuma-e-Deccan and chairman of the Indo Arab League Hyderabad is no more. He was 82.
Vicaruddin, who guided the newspaper through its centenary year last year, passed away on Thursday night at Olive Hospital here. Also a sportsman and known cricketer of his time, Vicaruddin was regarded for his endeavours to bridge the gap between India and the Arab world, travelling over 22 countries in this pursuit. He upheld the cause of Indian support towards Palestinian peace and was well known in Arab countries as well.
He was honoured as the ‘Star of Morocco’, conferred personally by King Mohammed IV of Morocco at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
He was also the first chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Finance Corporation and Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission.
An alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University, his newspaper Rahnuma-e-Deccan is considered the nursery for Urdu journalists. Vicaruddin never married and is survived by two sisters while his nephew Syed Ahmed Amiruddin has been overlooking the newspaper and its English news portal for quite some time.
