Sangareddy: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar called upon corporates in India to invest in research like their peers were doing in the West for development and innovation.

Addressing students of the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) here on Sunday, Dhankhar said the conventional war system had collapsed and India was emerging as a superpower globally. Innovation and research would give India a cutting edge in soft diplomacy over other countries in the world.

The western universities were getting huge amounts of funds from alumni, which was lacking in India, he said, urging alumni of Indian universities to start making monetary contributions to the institutes where they studied and also called to form a national-level alumni association.

Stating that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had termed India a hot spot for investments in the world, he said it was not the time to look for government jobs. Instead, the younger generation should invest in start-ups to create employment for others.

The traditional hierarchical succession mechanism in industrial business had collapsed in India.

“There was a time when we could not see a single Indian person working in global top corporates at any level, but now, there is not a single global corporate of consequence where an Indian genius is not contributing at the top level,” the Vice President said.

Governor Jishnu Dev Verma, IIT-H Board of Governors chairman Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, and IIT-H Director Prof BS Murty among others were present.
