Hyderabad: The Vigilance and Enforcement Department conducted multiple surprise inspections at various government offices in the city and noticed several discrepancies.

During the inspections of around 20 offices, the officials identified attendance irregularities in various departments. Also, private persons were acting as middlemen, who were performing official duties such as preparation of documents, handling official documents and liaising with government staff. It also came to light that there was a delay in the collection of relevant tax.

For instance, the RTO Uppal has a massive pending tax collection of Rs 180.65 crore against 16,137 vehicles, while the TGSPDCL office in Patancheruvu has Rs 2.65 crore pending from 19,620 defaulters. Further, Rs 3.88 crore is pending from 4,685 enforcement cases related to power theft and tampering.

The surprise checks were meticulously planned with multi-unit deployment from the CURE Area Task Force of Vigilance and Enforcement. The sectors covered during the inspections included transport, revenue, municipal administration, registration, enforcement, forest, energy and industries, a press release issued by the DG Vigilance and Enforcement stated.

Citizens were asked to report irregularities or misuse of government funds and resources on the toll-free number 14432.
