Mancherial: Vigilance and Enforcement officials from Karimnagar carried out inspections in the office of the Sub-Registrar of the Registration and Stamps department here on Friday.

Led by Vigilance and Enforcement SP Karimnagar Srinivas Rao, the officials conducted the inspections following allegations of bribe collection against staffers of the department. They verified transactions and records with regard to the sale and purchase of assets during the inspections. The outcome of the exercise was not disclosed. It was learnt that a report would be submitted to higher officials.

Meanwhile, document writers shut down their shops in the wake of the inspections. The writers reportedly were helping officials of the Registration and Stamps department in extracting bribes from applicants. The officials are allegedly collecting between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 to register an asset in illegal layouts.
