Hyderabad: Our tenure has come to an end, said the Hyderabad Cricket Association group comprising R Vijayanand, K John Manoj, Surender Agarwal, Naresh Sharma and Anuradha, a day after the Supreme Court said it would reconstitute the committee to oversee the functioning of the cricket body.
“With the Supreme Court clearly saying that a new committee of administrators will be formed to run the association, our tenure has ended. We are very thankful to our club secretaries and everyone who supported us. We did our best but we also had certain plans to develop the game. However, we could not go ahead with them owing to various reasons and also due to the pandemic. I am happy and content,” said John Manoj.
The body was elected in 2019 and was to complete its tenure in September 2022.
“We don’t want to blame anyone. I felt that someone who knew how to run the association should have been the president. At the end of the day, cricket should go on. The new administrators will oversee the functioning of the association. There is a CEO (Suneel Kante) to help them,” added Vijayanand.
The SC on October 27, had also stated that HCA president Mohammed Azharuddin and secretary Vijayand ‘jointly’ sign the cheques for the functioning of the body. Reacting to pending salaries, Vijayanand said, “I am available 24/7 to sign the cheques. It was the president who was not available. He was not in town for 40 days.”
Meanwhile, sources said Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru, Justice Ramakrishna Raju, Justice Naushad Ali along with former administrators N Shivlal Yadav and Arshad Ayub are the names suggested to the Supreme Court. HCA was also in news for all the wrong reasons, after the electricity department cut power supply to the Uppal stadium owing to pending dues of over Rs 3 crore.
“I stepped down as the secretary on April 1, 2017. The matter should have been pursued legally by whoever was in the office. Now, the notice has come a few days ago. We were suspended and it was the president who was in-charge. He should have followed it up,” said John Manoj.
When asked whether they would contest the next elections, John Manoj said, “I am content in my life at this point. I want to devote my time to cricket and produce more cricketers. I am not interested in contesting again. My energy would be focused on developing the game from here on,” he said. Vijayand also said it was too early to think about it.
