Nagarkurnool: Vexed with official apathy in curbing illegal transportation of sand, residents of Nadigadda village under Telkapally mandal staged a protest and demanded that stern action should be initiated against those involved in illegal sand mining.

Residents of Nadigadda have been complaining to the officials over illegal sand mining and transportation from River Dundhdhubhi. They have been saying that people from faroff places were loading sand from the riverbed and transporting it to other places. These transporters even claimed to have obtained permissions, the villagers alleged.

On Saturday, the villagers stopped a few tractors and other vehicles involved in illegal sand transportation at the riverbed. They even entered into arguments with the warned vehicle operators and warned them not to transport sand from the river.

This apart, the villagers also complained that complaints were lodged over the issue with the District Collectorate and yet no action was taken by the officials. Vexed with their apathy, the villagers gathered at the riverbed and staged a demonstration.

A banner, which read “stop illegal sand mafia and transportation”, was put up at the protest site.
