Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Residents of Penchikalpet mandal headquarters are planning to launch a movement demanding that the proposed Young India Integrated Residential School (YIIRS) be established in their village.

As part of the government’s efforts to establish 28 Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) across Telangana, a school was sanctioned for the Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency. Another school sanctioned for the Asifabad Assembly constituency is proposed to be established in Chirrakunta village. The schools will be constructed on 25 acres of land at a cost of Rs 200 crore each.

Accordingly, local MLA Dr P. Harish Babu recently inspected land near Bombayiguda and Chedwai villages for setting up the school. He said a suitable location would be selected for the facility, which would help transform the lives of students. Efforts would be made to commence work on the project soon.

However, youngsters and social activists in Penchikalpet have decided to form a joint action committee to launch a movement demanding that the government establish the school in their village. Their decision was triggered by the local MLA’s recent inspection of land in neighbouring Bombayiguda and Chedwai villages for the proposed facility.

The residents argued that Penchikalpet was a suitable location for the school.

“The village has all the amenities and enough land for establishing the school. It will witness growth on all fronts with the establishment of the facility. A padayatra will be held before submitting a memorandum to officials on August 31,” said Enangudal Thirupathi, who is leading the movement.

It may be recalled that the residents secured mandal headquarters status for their village after launching a movement when the then government reorganised districts in 2016. They expressed confidence that their demand would also be realised this time and appealed to everyone to participate in the movement.

Salient features of YIIRS

The YIIRS are proposed to be established with the aim of providing quality education of international standards to students from poor and weaker sections. The schools will have ultra-modern, well-equipped campuses with ample space for academic and extracurricular activities.

The State accorded administrative sanction of Rs 11,500 crore in March 2025 to establish the schools in 119 Assembly constituencies.
