Hyderabad: Raising concern over severe flooding due to incessant rains across the State, BRS working president KT Rama Rao demanded that the State government initiate urgent relief operations in Telangana. He also urged the party cadre to join the relief and rescue measures to help the needy.
Due to the continuous downpour, large parts of Kamareddy, Medak, Rajanna Sircilla, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Khammam and Adilabad have been submerged, leaving hundreds of villages marooned. Several highways, including stretches of the National Highway 44, have been cut off, while inter-district roads were severely damaged due to gushing floodwaters. Bridges got washed away, traffic has come to a standstill, and thousands of people are stranded without food, clean drinking water, electricity, or medical care.
Highlighting the prevailing situation, Rama Rao said in the Nizam Sagar mandal in Kamareddy district, 10 workers were trapped in the Boggugudese stream, while in Haveli Ghanpur Tanda, several tribals have climbed onto rooftops to escape rising floodwaters and are desperately awaiting rescue.
“People are left in the dark, with no basic necessities. The government’s silence at such a critical time is unforgivable,” he said.
The BRS working president said the Revanth Reddy government was being a silent spectator in the face of disaster, ignoring the plight of its own citizens. He recalled how former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao personally reviewed the flood situation on the ground, mobilised officials on a war footing, and even deployed NDRF teams when required. “Today, there is neither urgency nor empathy. Unfortunately, the people’s suffering is being disregarded,” he remarked.
Rama Rao laid out a detailed list of immediate steps that the State government should initiate. He urged the government to deploy NDRF and SDRF units in large numbers for evacuation and rescue, establish special relief camps to provide food, water, shelter, and medical support, and undertake urgent repairs of damaged roads, bridges, and power supply lines. He also stressed the need to restore the disrupted communication network to prevent further chaos.
“The government must wake up now. This is not the time for press conferences or empty assurances, but it is time for action. BRS workers are ready to step in and extend all possible support to the people,” he asserted, calling on his cadre to rise to the occasion.
