Hyderabad: Former MP B Vinod Kumar dismissed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s remarks that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) had no role in boosting crop production in Telangana. He found fault with the Chief Minister for discrediting the Kaleshwaram project and spreading misinformation without any subject knowledge.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Vinod Kumar said Revanth Reddy was speaking without understanding the objective of the Kaleshwaram project.

He pointed out that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao‘s pro-farmer policies including construction of irrigation projects, supply of uninterrupted electricity, Rythu Bandhu investment support and direct crop procurement, bolstered farmers’ confidence.

“The area under paddy cultivation, which had been shrinking during Congress rule since 1990, surged after 2014 in Telangana due to Chandrashekhar Rao’s visionary leadership. Revanth Reddy neither understands the farmers’ problems nor made efforts to address them. He has no right to take credit for the increased paddy production,” he remarked.

Vinod Kumar stated that the Kaleshwaram project was more than just the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. He pointed out that both Yellampalli and Mid Manair were also components of the Kaleshwaram project, which enhances optimum usage of water.

He stated that Revanth Reddy who plans to lift water from Mallanna Sagar to Musi River for the rejuvenation project, must remember that Mallanna Sagar also gets water from the Kaleshwaram project.

He charged both the Congress and BJP leaders with neglect of Medigadda barrage, without taking up repairs for the last one year.

“If BRS had ten MPs in Parliament, the Medigadda issue would have been addressed swiftly,” he said.
