Kothagudem: The ritual of ‘Uttara Dwara Darshanam’ was performed with grandeur as part of Mukkoti Vaikunta Ekadashi celebrations at Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam in the district on Thursday.

The beautifully decorated Uttara Dwaram was opened for the devotees during early hours at 5 am amid chanting of Vedic mantras and hymns by the devotees for one hour and closed at 6am. The priests performed special pujas during the period.

Meanwhile the temple officials faced criticism from Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah and local devotees for violating Covid norms. The temple authorities said the ceremony would be held in the presence of the temple priests and staff in view of the restrictions imposed by the State government, but they allowed a large number of people who were issued VIP passes.

The MLA expressed displeasure at the temple authorities who allowed their relatives, family members and influential persons while denying Uttara Dwara Darshanam to the common devotees.

Meanwhile, a devotee of Lord Rama and scribe, Kona Anand Kumar lodged a complaint with Bhadrachalam police accusing the temple officials of violating Covid norms. He said VVIP passes were issued to over 200 persons who neither maintained social distance nor wore face masks.

He demanded the police to take action against the authorities under the provisions of Disaster Management Act 2005, IPC Section 188 and Epidemic Disease Act 3/1987.

Though the Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy made it clear that the government has not issued any orders to close the temples, Bhadradri temple officials closed the temple from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning, Anand Kumar complained.
