Hyderabad: A photo showing a man wearing a white vest and brown shorts at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has divided the netizens as many questioned his ‘civic sense’. Some social media users have criticised his choice of clothing in a public space while others have defended him.
The viral photo first appeared in Hyderabad’s subreddit with the caption, “Yesterday at the airport. Why we lack civic sense?”
Several users pointed out a similar look of popular Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber who had sparked an online discussion with his sartorial choice.
The post quickly caught the attention of Redditors, drawing hundreds of comments over the attire which was deemed unfit by many for a place like an airport.
Resharing the post, a user termed it “double standards” and commented, “If a foreign man does this it’s fashion, and if a indian does it, it’s lack of civil sense?”
Several other users agreed with him and said it is the colonial mindset which makes us think whatever westerners do is cool.
“Not really bro. Nobody would have clicked his pic, if he was a fat white guy in the same outfit,” wrote a user.
“Bieber was criticised too by many. Being said that, Bieber is fit, so looks better than an average guy pulling this stunt,” commented a user.
Another user says we should not judge the person’s clothing choice if he feels comfortable in it, “99% civic sense situation has us Indians in the wrong but here it’s his choice. He can wear short clothes cause he is comfy,” he wrote.
“Both lack civic sense – there you go, no double standards,” a third user commented.
“The most comfortable outfit for the Indian summer,” wrote another user.
Double standards?
