File Photo: Marcus Stoinis and Shikhar Dhawan of Delhi Capitals celebrate their partnership during the qualifier 2 match of season 13 of IPL at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, in Abu Dhabi.

Hyderabad: Delhi Capitals entered finals defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 17 runs in the Qualifier 2. The surprise move to open the innings with Australian Marcus Stoinis paid off as he, along with Shikhar Dhawan, added 86 runs for the opening wicket, laying the foundation for a big total.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sewhag lauded the decision to send Stoinis to open the innings and he thought of the move much earlier. In a video he posted on the social networking site Facebook, he said, “Delhi Capitals opted to bat, but there was a surprise in store. Just as I had suggested, Marcus Stoinis opened the batting. I am telling you, they are all taking advantage of my free advice,” said Sehwag in his video.

He had survived a scare earlier in the innings. Jason Holder failed to hold on to a tough catch in the initial overs and the all-rounder Stoinis made it count. “Hyderabad had a great chance to dismiss Stoinis and give Delhi an early jolt. But they got a battering in return as Holder dropped Stoinis when the latter had scored only three runs. The score had crossed 80 by the 8th over, and Delhi was going ahead at full speed, but Rashid Khan came back refreshed in his second over and clean bowled Stoinis. Although Stoinis got out, Dhawan was driving his car on cruise control,” added Sehwag.
