Hyderabad: The battlegrounds for the survival shooter games and their ilk just got bigger with Zero Latency, the Australian virtual reality gaming studio known across several countries for its life-like experience, recently opting to launch at the Hyderabad International Airport.

It offers free roam virtual reality, which allows multi-players to actually move around the arena while they explore the virtual worlds for the adrenaline rush and a pulsating experience. This contrasts with other virtual reality platforms where gamers or rides like the roller coaster are anchored at a point and a simulated environment is presented via the VR headset.

Zero Latency has been launched at the airport by Radiance AREO Hospitality Services, headed by Trilok Potluri and operated by Parineeta Rajgarhia.

“You’re taken inside a game. While the physical space is about 2,000 sqft, a combination of technology, software and imagination allows it to be reused in many ways as the games progress,” says Parineeta.

There is a briefing before the gaming session begins that tells about the choice of weapons and shields available, the targets, scoring patterns, and how to come back alive in the game. Custom-made simulated weapons and game controllers add to the experience. The head-mounted display delivers graphic details that are close to being real and the headphone and microphone units provide a surround sound and a clear line of communication across all players involved. The backpack there contains a gaming computer with a high-speed internet connectivity.

“There are no wires, cables or any props. Everything is wireless. The free roam virtual reality ensures there are no giddiness or nauseating feelings, which sometimes are associated with other VR platforms,” she says adding that it up to eight players are allowed per session.

The gamers can choose use their favourite blaster modes – scatter, beam, pulse rifle and rail gun and use a shield to stay protected if they come under heavy fire. The squad has to work together to get out alive in Singularity. The team’s zombie apocalypse survival skills are tested in Zombie Survival. The teams should fend of zombies and rebuild defensive barriers. Zero Latency Hyderabad has games like Engineerium, Undead Arena and Mission Maybee for the 15 minute session. Outbreak Origins, Sol Raiders and recently added Far Cry are in the 30-minute basket.

Proximity sensors and motion capture technology put game elements in place, ensure there are no player-player collisions and avoid players from walking into the walls or out of the game zone. In rare cases of somebody getting overwhelmed and cannot convince themselves that it is a virtual world, can exit with the help available there. Somebody quitting the game midway will not affect the game for the rest of the team.

“We are talking about Meta. Zero Latency gives a glimpse of the direction in which gaming is heading. Many are looking out for new entertainment channels and are keen to enjoy heart pounding, life-like experiences in a simulated setup along with their friends. It is not just the youth but we have also seen elderly also come to experience the virtual reality,” says Parineeta about the response from Hyderabad.
