Hyderabad: The Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA), as part of its efforts to promote the game and provide opportunities to players, will conduct separate zonal cricket tournaments for seniors and juniors, according to VDCA Secretary K Parthasaradhi.
Visakhapatnam has been divided into four zones — South, North, East and West. The senior zonal teams will comprise players aged above 16 years, including senior players.
The tournament will be conducted on a three-leg league basis, with the top two teams playing the finals, also on a three-leg basis.
Similarly, junior teams will be selected from among boys aged above 12 and below 16 years. A few highly talented boys in the under-12 age group will also be considered for selection to the zonal teams.
The tournament will form the basis for selecting probables for the 2026-27 season in the under-14, under-16, under-19 and senior categories.
The initiative will provide players with an opportunity to showcase their talent. Matches will also be conducted for girls in the below-15 and above-15 age groups. Teams will be formed based on the availability of players.
The zonal tournament is scheduled to commence in the second or third week of November 2026.
