Hyderabad: BRS MLA KP Vivekananda on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for spending public money on extravagant events while claiming the State treasury has no funds for welfare and development activities. He alleged that the Congress government spent Rs 200 crore to host the Bharat Summit, which he termed a Congress party event in disguise.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Vivekananda questioned the priorities of the State government, pointing out that it had denied funds for employee benefits but went ahead with lavish spending on an event attended by Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi.
“The total event cost reportedly crossed Rs 200 crore, including Rs 30 crore spent on guest hospitality,” he claimed.
Drawing a comparison with the Formula-E race held during the BRS regime, which generated business worth Rs 700 crore, Vivekananda said: “Cases were filed against KT Rama Rao despite the economic returns. But not a word has been spoken about this government’s extravagant spending.”
He also alleged that during the Miss World pageant hosted by the Congress government, nearly Rs 1 lakh was spent per plate and crores were splurged on promotions.
“At the same time, students continue to suffer due to lack of infrastructure. Integrated school buildings remain incomplete, yet crores are being spent on advertisements showcasing new buildings,” he remarked.
Taking a swipe at the Chief Minister, Vivekananda said Revanth Reddy is close to completing a half-century of Delhi tours but has brought back little for the State.
