Wall posters threatening to kill sorcerers trigger panic in Jagtial
The posters asked village sorcerers to be cautious, stating that based on complaints received by the organisation, they had decided to kill all sorcerers in the village.
Jagtial: Wall posters with a message asking to kill sorcerers are triggering panic among residents of Katlakunta of Medipally mandal.
Unknown persons with the name of “Prajala Manchi Kore Samasta” (Public’s well-wisher organization) posted wall posters in different places of the village on Sunday night. The posters asked village sorcerers to be cautious, stating that based on complaints received by the organisation, they had decided to kill all sorcerers in the village.
The posters said the ‘elimination’ process would begin with two sorcerers in Gachunuthi locality. Later, others staying in Gundlavada Katta, Gollavada, Gandlavada, surroundings of Palakendram, SC and ST colonies would also be eliminated one after another, they said.
Asking the villagers to keep silent as they were silent so far, organization representatives warned through the posters that there might be a risk to their lives if anybody extended support to sorcerers.
Knowing about the incident, police visited the village and began investigation by seizing the wall posters. It became sensational not only in the village in the entire mandal since the people began talking about it. It is alleged that about 20 years ago, two persons were murdered in the village on the allegation of practising sorcery.
Medipalli SI Shyam Raj said they were making serious efforts to nab the people behind the posters. When asked whether two persons were murdered on sorcery allegations two decades ago, the SI said no such incident had happened.
Two months ago, they conducted an awareness programme in the village to educate people against superstitions, he said and informed to organize another awareness programme.
A few months ago, a flex poster came up in Jagannathpur of Raikal mandal warning eight sorcerers that they would be killed.
