Visakhapatnam: In its efforts to achieve and exceed targets despite the pandemic, Waltair Division ferried 10.61 million passengers safely up to February in this financial year which fetched Rs 358.01 crore, surpassing the targets 10.16 million and Rs.349.71 crore respectively one month before the closure of the financial year.

This is an excess of 4.43 per cent in the number of passengers and 2.37 per cent in passenger revenue in comparison to the set targets for the whole financial year, Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy, said on Thursday. The division mobilized its full contingent of manpower, conducted Ticket checking drives and planned its moves meticulously by re-introducing trains and stoppages as per public demand in the post-Covid months to reach the set targets despite cancellation or diversion of several trains in the peak season due to the pandemic’s second and third waves, two major cyclones and safety and maintenance related major traffic blocks, he stated.

“In the ticket checking segment, the commercial team strove to create record earnings in February-2022 toy generate revenue to the tune of Rs 2.58 crore by detecting 0.43 lakh cases which is 101.56% higher than the corresponding month in 2019 which was Rs 1.28 crore and cases detected were 0.40 lakh,” he said.
