Warangal Urban: An Anganwadi worker, who took Covid-19 vaccine shot on January 19, died in the early hours of Sunday at her residence under GWMC limits.
Relatives of Gannarapu Vanitha (48) of Jyotirao Phule Colony under Subedari police station limits, alleged that she had died because of adverse effects of the vaccine. Vanitha was working as Anganwadi worker at Deendayal Nagar Anganwadi centre. The police, following the allegations, shifted the body to MGM hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the State Health department is looking into the cause of Vanitha’s death. Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr G Srinivas Rao, in a release, said the woman was vaccinated at about 12 noon on January 19 at UPHC, New Shayampeta in Warangal Urban District. “It has come to the notice of the undersigned (Director) that she expired in the early hours of January 24. The district Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) committee is examining the matter and will submit its report to the state AEFI committee. The State AEFI committee will, in turn, furnish its report to the central AEFI committee for taking a view,” Dr Srinivas Rao said.
Meanwhile, sources said that Vanitha had reportedly taken part in work related to construction of her house on Friday and Saturday. “On Saturday, she complained of chest pain and went to the local urban primary health centre (UPHC) to get some tablets. But she died in the early hours of Sunday. She was suffering from BP and diabetes,” a relative, who didn’t want to be named, said.
Vanitha, a widow, is survived by an 11-year-old daughter.
