Warangal: The incessant rains lashing the erstwhile Warangal district since Monday are causing much trouble to people as the flood waters inundated low-lying areas in the Warangal city and damaged the standing crops like paddy and cotton in the rural areas of the erstwhile Warangal district.
Colonies including Sammaiah Nagar, BR Nagar, Amaravathi Nagar colony and some other localities have been flooded by the water interrupting the transportation. Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao has visited Amaravathi Nagar to take stock of the situation.
Heavy rain (6 cm to 12 cm) has recorded in six mandals in Warangal Urban district including Warangal, Hanamkonda and Hasanparthy mandals.
Meanwhile, crops like paddy, cotton, green gram, maize, chilli and vegetables in thousands of acres were damaged by the downpour in several parts of Jangaon district causing much worry to the farmers.
Several low-lying areas in Jangaon town and 12 mandals have been engulfed by the waters.
Cheetakodur, Tarigoppula, Gollakunta, Kundaram, Nellutla, Vadlakonda and Ganuga Pahad streams are overflowing. The water is being released downstream by lifting the two gates of the Chitakoduru reservoir. The road between Jangaon and Hyderabad national highway was closed as the road submerged due to flood waters. Water is overflowing from the low-level bridge at Gurthur village in Thorrur mandal. The transportation between Thorrur and Narsampet towns has been snapped.
Meanwhile, four persons, who were washed away along with a car near Durgamma temple in a stream at Vadlakonda on Tuesday night, were rescued by the police led by ACP Vinod Kumar. The police recused 15 passengers including driver and conductor as an RTC had fallen into a ditch due to low-visibility on Jangaon–Suryapet road at a bridge near Jangaon.
On the other hand, coal production was hit in the open cast mines (OCP) at Bhupalpally due to rains. Mahabubabad mandal recorded 9.38 cm rainfall on Wednesday, followed by Kesamudram mandal with 9.06 cm.
