Warangal Urban: Beautification works of junctions under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits are moving at a brisk pace, thanks to constant monitoring by the GWMC Commissioner and Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) vice-chairperson Pamela Satpathy.
While a total of 16 junctions were identified for development and beautification under GWMC limits, KUDA is developing a total of 10 junctions at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, KUDA Planning Officer (PO) E Ajit Reddy said that works on majority of the junctions had already commenced and half of them would be completed in about two months. “We have taken up development and beautification of junctions to give a facelift to the city under the Smart City Mission. Fountains are being set up at the junctions and they will give a multi-colour display providing a feast for the eyes,” he said, adding that junction development was going on at Ursu, CSR gardens, Venkatrama theatre, Pochammama Maidan, Hanamkonda Public Gardens, Subedari, Kakatiya University junction, Ambedkar junction, CSR gardens, Naidu Petrol and Madikonda junction. The junction developed at Hanamkonda bus station has become the centre of the attraction in the city.
Meanwhile, the GMWC has developed the Fathima junction and expedited construction of gateways (welcome arches) being built at the entrances of the city on Warangal-Khammam road, Warangal-Narsampet road, Warangal-Hyderabad road and Warangal-Karimnagar road. The four gateways are being constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crore to give an image make-over to the historic city of Warangal. They are being constructed under the Smart City Mission.
