Medak: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths of Medak district had to chase a Sub-Inspector of Police for nearly two kilometres before they could nab him in Tekmal mandal headquarters.
SI Rajesh, attached to the Tekmal police station, had allegedly demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe for an official favour from a person, and had accepted Rs 10,000 on November 13 through UPI transfer. The victim, unable to pay the remaining amount, approached ACB officials, who reached the police station just as Rajesh was accepting the remaining Rs 30,000. Upon seeing the ACB team, the SI jumped over the police station boundary wall and ran into nearby agriculture fields.
The ACB officials gave chase for nearly two kilometres before nabbing him. The SI reportedly tried to throw away the tainted amount of Rs 30,000. However, the ACB team led by DSP Venkateshwarlu caught hold of him on time and recovered the amount.
Meanwhile, villagers under the police station limits reached the place in huge numbers and burst crackers in celebration after learning of the arrest.
The SI is said to have demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe to help the complainant settle a theft case in Lok Adalat.
