Hyderabad: Much to the dismay of the Congress government, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair hailed Telangana’s growth after it became India’s youngest State in 2014. Like former RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao, the former British Prime Minister was impressed with Telangana’s progress in different sectors and shared his views.

Addressing the Global Summit virtually on Tuesday, he recalled that in 2014, Telangana had begun a journey filled with high expectations and even higher aspirations. “Today, reflecting on the transformation underway in Hyderabad and throughout the State, the story is not only one of progress, but one of enormous promise for the future. The record speaks for itself,” the former British Prime Minister said.

“As highlighted in your own growth analysis, the State’s GSDP has nearly tripled in a decade. Your per capita income has become one of the highest in the country,” Tony Blair added.

He also recalled Telangana’s growth from being a backward region to scaling new heights. “Beyond these statistics lies something far more profound. A region once seen as struggling has reimagined itself as a powerhouse of technology, agriculture, and inclusive growth. You have become, in many ways, a model for other parts of the world,” Tony Blair said.

As Telangana marks this milestone year, it does so when India is shaping its future, working to build a fully developed and globally leading nation by the time it celebrates the centenary of independence in 2047, he added.
