Hyderabad: BRS LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy staged a unique protest inside the Assembly premises on Thursday, wearing a dress made of mosquito net to highlight the growing mosquito menace in Greater Hyderabad. He criticised the government for its failure to tackle the issue and demanded immediate measures to protect people from diseases.

The MLA attempted to hold the press conference in the Assembly Media Hall, along with a fogging machine and mosquito nets to underscore his point. However, the Assembly marshals intervened and confiscated the equipment, citing a lack of permission. Undeterred, the MLA went ahead with the briefing wearing a mosquito net dress.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudheer Reddy said the government failed to take adequate steps to control mosquito infestation, leading to a rise in vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. He said the situation was not only affecting public health but also damaging Hyderabad’s image, with residents and visitors expressing concern.

He stated that routine anti-mosquito measures undertaken by the previous BRS government over the years were no longer being implemented effectively. He demanded that the government deploy at least 10 fogging machines per division and immediately carry out large-scale fogging operations.

Sudheer Reddy also criticised the restrictions imposed within the Assembly premises and said the marshals’ intervention was unwarranted. He maintained that the protest was intended to draw urgent attention to a civic issue impacting lakhs of residents.
