Jogulamba Gadwal: Over 50 students of the BC Hostel at Dharmavaram under Erravally mandal were hospitalised due to food poisoning on Friday night.
The students initially received preliminary treatment in 108 ambulances. However, as their condition worsened, they were shifted to the Government General Hospital in the district, according to reports.
Praveen, a native of Kondapur and a student from the hostel, said they were served cabbage curry and sambar for dinner. Soon after eating, several students began vomiting and fell ill, he said in a video that has been circulating on social media.
Despite the Congress government’s claims of ensuring timely release of funds and serving quality food, such incidents continue to occur. The State government had earlier directed District Collectors and senior officials to conduct surprise inspections of hostel kitchens and share meals with the students. Yet, food poisoning cases in government residential schools and hostels are still being reported regularly.
Alampur MLA Vijayudu visited the Gadwal GGH and spoke to students. He assured them and their parents of quality treatment and urged the officials to ensure such incidents do not recur.
