Mahabubnagar: After contractors staged protests over delays in clearing their pending bills, Congress MLA from Jadcherla J Anirudh Reddy has threatened to go on a fast unto death if bills for development works in his constituency are not cleared.
The MLA said he was prepared to launch a hunger strike along with 30,000 people for Jadcherla’s development. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had laid the foundation stones for road works, but the projects have yet to take off.
Addressing a gathering on Monday, Anirudh Reddy appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to release the necessary funds for Jadcherla’s development without further delay.
The MLA questioned the allocation of funds to constituencies represented by Ministers while other segments continued to face delays. “If bills are cleared only for the constituencies of Ministers, what is the fate of other MLAs?” he asked. He stressed that the government could survive only if all constituencies developed.
Referring to the death of a contractor in Nagarkurnool, Anirudh Reddy said the incident had led to the immediate release of Rs.5 crore in payments. “Should I also die for the Rs.40 crore bills in Jadcherla to be cleared?” he asked.
The MLA called on political leaders to set aside party affiliations and unite to fight for Jadcherla’s development. He also urged them to press for irrigation canals from Uddandapur to Kallepally and ensure water supply to Jadcherla.
This is not the first time, when the Congress MLA crticised his own government. In the past too, he had found fault with the government for delay in payment of contractors bills.
Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy too had come down heavily on the Congress government over contractors bills payment issue.
