Hyderabad: Following reports of a leopard being spotted near Metro Station in Miyapur, the forest department officials dispatched teams to investigate the claims on Friday night.
A video clip that went viral on the social media showed what appeared to be a big cat taking a stroll, and claimed it was spotted near the Metro station. Alerted by this, the forest department officials sent teams including anti-poaching squad personnel to check the veracity of the incident.
A senior official with the forest department said the video, if it was shot in Hyderabad and near Miyapur, could be of a location beyond Metro depot. “There are lush green patches in the foreground and a tree line behind. This could not possible be around the busy Metro station,” the official said.
On the possibility of a leopard straying into the city, the official said it could have come down from the scrub forest further down Ameenpur and other vicinities.
“We do not want to ignore the possibility of it and have sent our personnel to check. Leopard is an animal known from such straying. We had earlier captured two leopards from ICRISAT campus and then there is this incident of a leopard walking into the busy Jubilee Hills,” the official said.
