Hyderabad: A gang of pickpockets made away with cash, mobile phones and ATM cards during a funeral procession at Langer Houz last week, the police said on Thursday.
The incident came to light after a video clip of the pickpockets flicking wallets and mobile phones from people who were attending the funeral procession went viral on social media.
In the video, at least four persons are seen pretending to help keep the ‘janaza’ (body) in a vehicle while two of them are seeing stealing stuff from the pockets of other people. The theft came to light later when people who found their valuables missing informed the police. The police later visited the spot and collected footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Local residents informed the police that the gang came on two-wheelers and sat near the house from where the funeral procession had begun.
