Medak: River Manjeera is overflowing menacingly over the Yellapur bridge, which connects the Hyderabad–Medak road to Edupayala temple, at Yellapur village in Papannapet mandal.
The river has been receiving over 1.5 lakh cusecs of water, with irrigation authorities releasing 90,000 cusecs from Singur reservoir by lifting 10 crest gates. Heavy rains in Sangareddy and Medak have further swelled the inflows downstream of Singur.
As a precautionary measure, officials have closed traffic on the road. The river has also overflowed across three other bridges near Edupayala, disrupting movement in the area.
The swelling waters swept away prasadam counters and temporary sheds erected around the temple. Meanwhile, several streams, lakes and other water bodies in the district are overflowing due to continuous rainfall.
