A screen grab of viral video, in which a school student is carrying water can on his shoulders.
Hyderabad: Students of Telangana Model School Bongloor in Rangareddy are facing unexpected challenges, in addition to their academic workload. Along with their academics, the students are forced to shoulder the burden of fetching drinking water, as their school has been facing water scarcity.
By pooling money from their own pockets, students are purchasing water cans to meet drinking water requirements in the school. On Tuesday, a video of the school student carrying water can on his shoulders went viral on social media.
Students lamented that the school has been facing water scarcity and there was no Krishna water supply to the institution. “Each of us contributes Rs 1 or Rs 2 to purchase water can from outside for drinking water in the classroom. However, one water can is not sufficient for the entire class. The State government is not bothered about our plight,” a student in the video.
Another student said they were daily contributing money towards purchasing water cans. “The school has drinking water issues and there is no Krishna water supply. I request the government to provide drinking water,” he added.
A senior official from the School Education Department said a notice was served on the school authorities, seeking explanation on the issue and further action would be initiated. “Students are carrying water bottles but we have not come across a water can being carried on the shoulder. We will look into the issue and take an action,” official said.
