Siddipet: Aiming to impound 30 TMCft of water this year, irrigation officials began pumping water into Mallanna Sagar, the largest reservoir under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), on Tuesday.
The reservoir currently holds 10 TMCft against its full capacity of 50 TMCft. Since its inauguration by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in 2022, officials have steadily increased storage year after year. The storage level rose to 21 TMCft in 2024, with plans to achieve full capacity in the next couple of years.
Mallanna Sagar Deputy Executive Engineer Chennuri Srinivas Rao said two out of the eight pumps at the Tukkapur pump house are being operated to pump 2,500 cusecs of water. The pumping commenced a day after water was first lifted into Ranganayaka Sagar, from which it will be pumped into Mallanna Sagar.
