Rajanna-Sircilla: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday announced that water would be released from Upper Manair reservoir in the first week of July.
For the first time in the history of the reservoir, water would be released from the project to irrigate crops in Vaanakalam season.
Rama Rao, who made a surprise visit to the district on Monday, conducted a review meeting with district officials to discuss various developmental and other issues at the MLA camp office in Sircilla.
The Minister instructed officials to make all arrangements to release water from the reservoir. Water would be supplied to 13,000 acre. Pointing out that 2.2 tmc water was available in the reservoir, Rama Rao said the project was filled with Godavari water from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme in mid-summer.
Water is being released for crops only because of the commitment of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he said, and thanked the former on behalf of Sircilla farmers.
Rama Rao also discussed the Chief Minister’s expected tour programme of the district. Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate the integrated collectorate complex, government nursing college, modern market yard and double bedroom houses constructed in different places, the Minister said and instructed officials to make all the arrangements for the Chief Minister’s visit.
