HYDERABAD: “We look forward to them (openers) still having a very aggressive approach at the top. Obviously, we’ve had some good reflections since we’ve arrived back here in Hyderabad. And, we look forward to a positive result tomorrow,” Simon Helmot, assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, said on the eve of the match against Gujarat Titans here on Saturday.

“The pitch can be very batter-friendly. But, you need to be batting well. You need to be batting positively,” he said.

“But, also you need to be bowling as best you can and as precisely as you can to try and restrict the opposition. And, obviously, if you can support that with some excellent fielding, you know you can be in a good position to win,” Helmot said.

“Obviously, we didn’t bat so well against Kolkata. But I think across the country, wickets are very good. (And so that’s certainly put greater pressure on bowling and fielding teams,” he said.

(3:46) But also for batters to assess what is a good score, (3:50) how hard to go and what sort of score you may need to make to be a winning total.

“There’s always pressure on teams. But certainly not added pressure. The discussion of making a 300-plus score is outside noise. It’s not something that we discuss internally,” Helmot said.

“But, we know that we have a quality batting unit that hasn’t quite worked out for us the last two matches. So we look forward to getting those sorts of results that we did in the first match,” he said.

“The mood in the camp is very good. It’s always an advantage when you have such calm leaders ( and Daniel Vettori and Pat Cummins,” Helmot said.

“We are looking at ways and investigating ways in which we can improve collectively and also individually,” he said.

“I think spin always has a role. It’s just a matter of how many spinners and how many overs they bowl. It can depend on situations and who we’re up against. Obviously, they have a strong spin part of their game too,” Helmot said.

On Pat Cummins bowling, Helmot said he thought he was in really good bowling form. _It’s been fairly unforgiving in the venues that we’ve played at and we’re playing against some really good opposition,” he said.

“But I think as a collective, being more precise with the ball is something that we’re going to work on and look to develop because as we know out here in Hyderabad it’s very unforgiving,” Helmot said.
