We need to play 40 overs of good cricket, says Pant

“The way our batting unit has come up, there have been some special bowling performances also. We've been getting chances, but we haven't been able to maintain. That is costing us the match,” Pant said

HYDERABAD: Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant, who rediscovered his batting form in the last league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru albeit in a lost cause with a brilliant century (118 n.o., 61b, 11×4, 8×6) in Lucknow on Tuesday night, said eventually the team had to get to play 40 overs of good cricket.

“Twenty overs aren’t going to save you. I was feeling well with each and every match. But sometimes it just doesn’t come off,” Pant said in a chat with host broadcaster after the match.

“Whenever you get a start, try to make it as big as possible. I was trying to play the field – how they were going to bowl – just playing through the line,” Pant said.

“Just kept on playing with the same intensity throughout the innings. There will be a lot of areas where we will be talking. But the season is just ending. Just want to switch off for a few days,” he said.

“The way our batting unit has come up, there have been some special bowling performances also. We’ve been getting chances, but we haven’t been able to maintain. That is costing us the match,” Pant said.

This loss meant Lucknow finished the league at seventh place with six wins from 14 games and 12 points.
