Kothagudem: The leaders of Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) and elected members in the district demanded that the BJP government at the Centre withdraw its decision to auction SCCL coal blocks.
On Wednesday, the TBGKS and MLAs staged dharnas at SCCL head office in Kothagudem, Manugur, Yellandu and at Sathupalli in Khammam district against auctioning of coal blocks by the Central government.
MLA Vanama Venkateshwar Rao along with ZP Vice Chairman K Chandrashekhar Rao, Municipal Chairman Kapu Sitalakshmi TBGKS leaders V Gopal Rao, Somi Reddy, Md Razak and others staged dharna in Kothagudem.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said the Central government’s decision was against the interests of thousands of employees of the company. Auctioning of coal blocks harms the company’s progress and it would have an impact on the employees.
Pinapaka MLA and TRS district president Rega Kantha Rao participated in a protest at Manugur. He alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was conspiring to privatise the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
He demanded that the Centre immediately stop auctioning of coal blocks and allot them to the SCCL keeping the interests of people in the State. The TRS government provided as many as 16,000 jobs in SCCL after the creation of Telangana state.
If the SCCL was privatised the local youths would lose the job opportunities and the employees working in the company in coal mines spread over Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, and Warangal districts would become jobless, Kantha Rao lamented.
He said the Centre was planning to privatise SCCL which was in profits to favour Adani and Ambani groups. The people in the State were watching the anti-people policies of the BJP government and would give a fitting lesson to the party in coming days, he warned.
Yellandu MLA B Haripriya and Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah staged protests at their respective places.
