Woman dies, daughter battles for life after attempt to end lives in Mancherial

According to the police, 70-year-old Pochamma, a widow, and her daughter Rajamma, members of a nomadic community from Chunnambattiwada, attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. They were promptly taken to a hospital in the town, where Pochamma succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while Rajamma remains in critical condition, fighting for her life.

Mancherial: A woman died while her daughter was in critical condition after they allegedly attempted suicide following family disputes here late on Wednesday.

Police said that Pochamma (70), a widow, and her daughter Rajamma, belonging to a nomadic community from Chunnambattiwada, attempted to die by consuming pesticide. They were immediately shifted to a hospital in the town. Pochamma breathed her last while undergoing treatment. Rajamma was battling for life.

It is learnt that the two women were in an inebriated condition at the time and had picked up an argument over some issue before attempting to end their lives. Rajamma was living with Pochamma after getting separated from her husband. They were earning a livelihood by collecting discarded plastic bottles.

Pochamma’s son Gangaram lodged a complaint with police. A case was registered. Investigations are on.
