Hyderabad: A woman was murdered by strangulation, allegedly by her husband at Moosapet in Kukatpally, police said.
The victim identified as N Shirisha (25), a native of Odisha, had an arranged marriage with Santosh Kumar, a native of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, in May this year. Both the families were currently residing in Moosapet here.
At the time of their marriage, Shirisha’s parents gave Rs 3 lakh, gold and other material as dowry. After wedding, the couple too started staying in a rented house in Moosapet. According to the police, Santosh suspected his wife’s fidelity and started harassing her both mentally and physically.
“He picked up frequent fights for the last six months. The couple was counseled and Santosh was warned by the elders from both sides, who worked out a compromise between the couple twice earlier,” said an official.
However, Santosh is believed to have continued to harass Shirisha. It is suspected that after one such argument, he strangled her to death on Thursday evening. He left the body in the bedroom and fled by locking the main door from outside.
The incident came to light on Friday morning, when relatives came to the couple’s house. They found the door locked and left. However, when Santosh did not respond to calls to his mobile phone, they grew suspicious and returned to check the house. With the help of the neighbours, the lock was broken and Shirisha was found dead inside. When checked, they noticed a ligature mark on her neck and raised suspicion on Santosh.
The Kukatpally police have taken up the investigation. Santosh has reportedly been taken into custody.
