Warangal Urban: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said that any effort to empower women in science and technology would immensely benefit humanity. Women through their attitude of care and compassion would take forward research and development in science and technology with a humane approach, she said.
Delivering the inaugural address online at an International Conference on Women’s Empowerment in Science and Technology (ICWEST 2021) organised by the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, (NITW) on the occasion of International Women’s Day, she appreciated the organisers for selecting the theme “Empowerment of Women in Science and Technology” and said that the topic was relevant and highly necessary. She encouraged everyone to motivate the girls to take up technical courses so that they would excel in every field of science and technology.
Prof NV Ramana Rao, Director, NITW, stated that International Women’s Day marks a watershed moment in the history of mankind and it is a day of formal acknowledgment of the efforts made by women in shaping the destiny of millions. He congratulated the Governor for achieving the prestigious 20 women of excellence global award. Dr B Spoorthi, one of the organising secretaries, thanked Tamilisai Soundararajan for accepting the invite to be the Chief Guest of the inaugural event and welcomed the delegates, invitees and participants in her welcome address.
Dr B Lakshmi, another organising secretary, said that over 130 participants registered for the conference, out of which 60 abstracts were selected. She added that they had invited speakers from the US, Netherlands, and India making it an international event. Participants from different parts of the country, from Assam to Trichy and from Rajasthan to West Bengal, are presenting papers at the conference.
Dr C Vanitha, Prof S K Pandey, Former Director of NIT Puducherry, Registrar of the Institute, S Goverdhan Rao, Deans, Faculty, Staff, and Students of the institute were among the attendees.
The three-day conference will have speakers from across the work and 60 paper presentations on Women and STEM with presenters from the length and breadth of the Country. Over 500 participants from different educational institutions attended the Inaugural which was live-streamed on YouTube.
