Workshops on road safety held in Andhra Pradesh
A total of 84 officers from IAS, IPS and from other departments including Transport, Road and Buildings, State Highways, National Highways Authority of India and local urban bodies participated.

Hyderabad: A three-day program consisting of workshops and deliberations on “Capacity building in Road Safety Management” was held jointly by the Andhra Pradesh Police with Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) and College of Traffic Management, New Delhi, at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
During the workshops conducted between September 28 to 30, training was induced in participants in the basics of the traffic engineering, traffic control devices and traffic legislation with emphasis on the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, coupled with live discussions which culminated in an action plan.
A total of 84 officers from IAS, IPS and from other departments including Transport, Road and Buildings, State Highways, National Highways Authority of India and local urban bodies participated.
Sameer Sarma, AP Chief Secretary, while delivering the keynote address, stressed upon the importance of better coordination amongst all departments and assured to request funds and support from the union government.
Gautam Sawang, DGP, AP presided over the proceedings and assured to take forward the recommendations of the workshops and deliberations including starting a Traffic Training Center in Vijayawada, initially with the available infrastructure.
Some of the recommendations of the workshops included the importance of capacity building of manpower for police officers, traffic engineers and transport officers, utilization of the road safety funds made available by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and need for effective coordination of departments.
It was instructed to all officers that they should take the initiative to coordinate with all departments in their own areas and make improvements through traffic engineering for smooth traffic flow and make the roads safer for road users.
