Yadadri-Bhongir: District Collector Pamela Satpathy on Thursday instructed the officials to prepare a plan within three weeks for purchase of cotton crop from farmers.

Speaking at a meeting with officials of Marketing, Agriculture, Police departments and Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) here, Pamela Satpathy said it was estimated that cotton production would be over 86,141 metric tons this season as cotton cultivation was taken up in 1.24 lakh acres by 56,506 farmers in the district. She directed the officials to chalk out a plan for purchase of cotton from farmers in 16 ginning mills and market yards of Bhongir, Chouttuppal, Alair, Valigonda in the district.

She said the cotton procurement centres should continue till the entire cotton produced by farmers is purchased. Agriculture department officials should take up steps and ensure that there are no hurdles in the procurement process, she said, and underlined the need to create awareness among farmers about the cotton purchasing centres’ locations and Minimum Support Price (MSP). Police and fire department officials should inspect the ginning mills and ensure safety measures. Transport department should take responsibility for shifting the purchased cotton to ginning mills from the purchasing centres, she said.

Deputy Director of Marketing Sabita, CCI Cotton Purchasing Officer K V Krishna Reddy and Assistant Director of Agriculture Neelima were also attended the meeting.
